SCIEMETRIC INTRODUCES NEW LEAK TESTER
SigPOD Leak delivers low cost per channel & high accuracy in industry’s most advanced packaging
Sciemetric Instruments, a leading provider of assembly manufacturing quality systems, today announced the availability of its new SigPOD Leak test system.
Testing the integrity of seals is a basic requirement in many industries. Automotive manufacturers heavily rely on leak testing to assure the quality of parts ranging from brake lines and oil pans to engines. Industrial manufacturers use leak testing for everything from ink jet cartridges to electric motors to plastic bottles while medical device manufacturers need it to verify the quality and safety of products such as catheters and pacemakers.
SigPOD Leak is comprised of two parts: a controller and pneumatic modules. Each controller, which features a touchscreen option, can connect to and control up to four pneumatic modules to simultaneously test up to four parts. A variety of mounting options are available including multi-unit desktop, machine mount, DIN rail and wall mount. Using signature analysis, SigPOD Leak is able to provide pass/fail decisions faster than other systems, decreasing cycle time without compromising accuracy.
“The design of the SigPOD Leak incorporated years of experience and customer feedback,” said Nathan Sheaff, CEO. “Modularity was important but what it came down to was accuracy. Our engineering team spent a lot of time on the details to guarantee speed with high accuracy. For example, the pneumatic modules are small enough to be placed close to the part under test and we removed all additional heat sources within the module that could affect accuracy.”
At 8” x 8” x 2.5” the pneumatics are small enough to be mounted close to the part under test, reducing test volumes and also improving accuracy. The pneumatic module was designed for ease of servicing through quick access and the use of standard tools.

And because SigPOD Leak is modular, a unit can be swapped out during the maintenance process in minutes. These changes alone will save our customers hundreds of hours of production time.”
Introduced in 2005, SigPOD is an industry-leading platform designed for in-process testing and monitoring. The platform enables manufacturers to standardize testing across the production line with common software and hardware for different applications. The signature analysis software features a setup wizard for quick system configuration, screens tailored for different users (engineers, supervisors and operators), in-station SPC for limit management and histograms, trends, feature and history views with one-click drill-down.
SigPOD Leak can be used for many leak tests applications where seal integrity and the ability to detect leaks quickly and reliable are critical. Medical devices, automotive subassemblies, pneumatic components and closed containers are a few examples of applications.
