MERCURY MARINE IMPROVES QUALITY AND REDUCES COSTS WITH SCIEMETRIC ENGINE TESTING SOLUTIONS
Sciemetric Instruments Inc. announced today that it has completed deployment of it’s advanced engine in-process test solutions to dramatically reduce costs and improve quality at the Mercury Marine engine plant in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.
Sciemetric’s in-process engine testing is specifically designed to catch defects as early as possible in the production process. Sub-assemblies are continually measured and tested throughout the assembly line. This approach ensures that valuable cycle time is not wasted processing an engine with a quality issue. More comprehensive engine testing also equates to a better quality product for the end consumer.
With Sciemetric’s in-process testing solution, Mercury Marine can ensure the quality of each engine without relying on hot-testing 100% of their engines. This capability will help them reduce wasted cycle time and cut their manufacturing costs.
"The Sciemetric based test systems that we utilize in our VERADO assembly process has been vital in improving first past yield, providing data for continuous improvement opportunities, and validating our processes. This results in improved throughput, reduced cost and improved quality. The test systems are a key part of Mercury's ability to give our customers a product that is unmatched in quality!" said Mike Oswald, Manufacturing Engineer Manager at Mercury Marine.
