Time-consuming manual reporting eliminated thanks to centralized manufacturing data and library of standard reports

Web Reporter offers intuitive and easy-to-use interface to access complete quality data, including process signatures, from anywhere in the enterprise

October 19, 2010 – Sciemetric Instruments (www.sciemetric.com), whose technology has been used for over 25 years by some of the world’s largest manufacturers to improve quality and their manufacturing processes, today announced the release of the latest version of its proprietary analytical software, QualityWorX, that includes an improved web reporting interface that gives all users real-time access to centralized manufacturing data.

QualityWorX is a comprehensive suite of software tools that automate the storage, archiving, retrieval, analysis and reporting of critical manufacturing data captured on the plant floor. It enables collection and analysis of production data to demonstrate proof of compliance for parts made. Determine trends as a means to proactively identify production improvements, quickly address quality issues and increase productivity. Reporting on quality is a challenge that many manufacturers face because they lack the tools to effectively bring together the production data and must rely on time-consuming approaches.

This new version includes an improved Web Reporter reporting function that makes manufacturing data housed in the centralized QualityWorX database available across the network through a web browser in a user-friendly interface. This simple but powerful interface, accessed over either local or wide-area networks, makes manufacturing data available to technicians and managers alike. The reports provide insight on quality and throughput and enable some drill-down to determine the cause of issues affecting them.

In order to produce reports to support either internal quality initiatives or regulatory requirements, manufacturers no longer have to gather data from disparate sources and generate time-consuming manual reports. With Web Reporter, the pertinent information can be quickly and easily accessed from the QualityWorX database and presented in an easy-to-understand format. An extensive library of standard reports is included in the core software. In just a few clicks, even non-technical managers can create powerful reports including First Time Yield, Summary Report, Trend Browser, Failure Report, Failure Pareto, Repair Traffic and Defect Pareto.

When used with Sciemetric’s sigPOD test stations, the hardware and software combine to create unparalleled visibility into manufacturing processes, and users are able to gain the full value of process signature technology. The methodology – capturing and then analyzing the unique process signatures of critical manufacturing processes – provides complete visibility into manufacturing processes, which lowers failure rates, quickly determines root causes of defects, shortens test-cycle times and improves manufacturers’ ability to conduct selective, rather than sweeping, recalls. Detailed records of end-to-end manufacturing data prove that products meet internal standards and support regulatory compliance.

QualityWorX can also be connected to third-party test stations and PLC networks. Regardless of the hardware components selected – either the plug and play family of sigPOD test stations or proprietary test devices from other vendors – test stations can be added or deactivated in QualityWorX without any production downtime. Because the application is based on an SQL database and has been developed using open standards such as XML and OPC, all test devices can take full advantage of the storage and analysis power of QualityWorX.

Web Reporter is now included with every QualityWorX installation at no additional cost.

Screenshots of the Web Reporter are available upon request.

Manufacturers no longer have to settle for limited test capabilities because of limited budget

March 2, 2010 - Ottawa, Canada - Sciemetric Instruments (www.sciemetric.com), whose technology has been used for over 25 years by some of the world’s largest manufacturers to improve quality and their manufacturing processes, today announced the addition of a low-cost two-channel process monitor, the sigPOD 1302, to its sigPOD family of process-monitoring tools.

The new sigPOD 1302 system comes loaded with templates for common test applications such as press, torque, and noise, vibration and harshness, or NVH, along with point-and-click configurable software that can quickly and easily be configured to support virtually any monitoring application including weld, crimp, dispense, profiling and functional testing.

sigPOD is a robust and flexible platform designed for usability and visibility in live production environments. This out-of-the-box hardware and software system for monitoring test and assembly processes is designed to integrate seamlessly into production lines, delivering commonality across the line, and providing immediate pass-fail status on the production floor.

Sciemetric’s platform is driven by signature analysis technology, determining in real-time any deviation from the manufacturing process’s correct waveform, thereby detecting defects as they occur. This process signature verification facilitates detailed insight into process behaviour by measuring and analyzing the physical characteristics of processes applied during manufacturing using a scientific approach based on electronic signature analysis.

The introductory price of US$2,995.00 positions the sigPOD 1302 as offering the most functionality on the market at the lowest price point. The price is comparable to single test systems offered by competitors but sigPOD 1302 offers better value for money as the system includes both hardware and configurable software that enables users to program any of a variety of test applications. It also presents an affordable way for manufacturers contemplating the implementation of more extensive quality systems to ease into incorporating process-monitoring tools across their lines.

“Most manufacturers I’ve talked to tell me that sigPOD is the best press and process monitoring system available on the market,” said Nathan Sheaff, CEO of Sciemetric Instruments. “But many of them also told me they could not afford to implement our technology. With the new 1302 sigPOD, we’re able to offer the best product for the lowest cost, two things you don’t usually get at the same time. Now everyone can afford the best scientific monitoring tool and can reap the benefits and cost savings that sigPOD offers.”

The sigPOD family is scalable from two to 24 channels, and is built upon a common hardware platform and software interface to provide a unified user interface throughout the product line.

Using 1608 module, sigPOD now supports up to 24 analog channels to monitor manufacturing processes

October 22, 2009 - Ottawa, Canada - Sciemetric Instruments, whose technology has been used for over 15 years by some of the world's largest manufacturers to improve quality and their manufacturing processes, today announced the expansion of its modular sigPOD hardware platform to support up to 24 analog channels and six encoder input channels.

sigPOD is a robust, flexible platform designed for usability and visibiltiy in live production environments. This out-of-the-box hardware and software system for monitoring test and assembly processes is designed to integrate seamlessly into production lines, delivering commonality across the line. sigPOD is easy to configure, saves time by increasing efficiency of manufacturing processes and displays detailed results of manufacturing processes in real time.

Sciemetric has developed an eight-channel expansion module, Model 1608, which can be connected to any of the company's sigPOD systems to expand it in eight-channel increments to a maximum of 24 channels.

"In today's dynamic economy, manufacturers cannot afford to conduct expensive recalls," said Nathan Sheaff, CEO of Sciemetric Instruments. "By adopting in-process testing, companies can find problems early and before they cost money and fix processes so that they are running at maximum efficiency.

"That sigPOD is now expandable with the Model 1608 module means that companies that have more intensive monitoring requirements gain additional capacity as now they can run applications that require higher channel counts, from complex applications such as end line functional testing in automotive to heat fusing of critical but high volume medical devices."

Sciemetric offers a full range of sigPOD instrumentation products that are used to verify and control a variety of standard manufacturing operations such as assembly-press monitoring, leak testing, vibration analysis and functional testing. The flexible system can be configured to qualify virtually any manufacturing process.

The sigPOD platform is driven by Sciemetric's process signature verification (PSV) software, which enables detailed insight into process behaviour by measuring and analyzing the physical characteristics of processes applied during manufacturing using a scientific approach based on electronic signature analysis. Understanding the physical behaviour of machines and assembly processes in real time allows companies to analyze manufacturing defects at the source improving quality, increasing productivity and decreasing costs. PSV dramatically improves monitoring sensitivity and defect detection capability over conventional methods.

"Incorporating risk management using process signature technology helps companies in industries like medical-device manufacturing meet tough regulatory requirements," said Sheaff.

Not only does sigPOD provide immediate pass-fail status on the production floor, it also acts as the conduit to transfer all the collected information into QualityWorX, Sciemetric's analytics software, for advanced analysis. QualityWorX provides full visibility into manufacturing processes, capturing test data and enabling thorough analysis of the entire process.

About Sciemetric Instruments
Sciemetric Instruments is a software and systems technology company that develops and markets quality monitoring and management tools that allow companies to gain full visibility into and control over manufacturing processes. The company's sigPOD platform uses proprietary Process Signature Verification, or PSV, technology, which provides unprecedented visibility into manufacturing production by measuring and analyzing the physical characteristics of processes applied during manufacturing using a scientific approach based on electronic signature analysis. The company's comprehensive quality solution, and QualityWorX analytics software, enables manufacturers to reduce costs, manage quality, maximize yield and improve traceability. Sciemetric customers - some of the world's largest automotive, industrial and medical manufacturers - rely on Sciemetric products and technology to increase competitiveness, manage regulatory compliance and avoid costly recalls. Headquartered in Ottawa, Canada, the company has its North American sales office in the U.S. and European offices in the U.K., and a subsidiary in India. For more information, please visit www.sciemetric.com
